Seasonal Dispatcher (mid-shift)

Job Description

This position is responsible for maintaining an efficient flow of equipment and drivers (both; employee's & independent contractors) on traffic lanes to maintain a high satisfactory level of customer service; to communicate and support the strategic direction of the organization and department. Provide direction and foster teamwork to ensure that the department goals are achieved.

Essential Functions:

  • Communicate throughout the day with drivers and actively update computer status. Continue this process through the duration of each shift to ensure the 'planner' has the actual status of drivers available for proper set-up.

  • Cross train between stations to learn about different types of freight and lanes we currently handle or expect to handle in the future. Learn about equipment types to better understand loading potentials and general awareness to ensure it works for all loads, customers, locations, etc.

  • Call current customers and/or potential customers to inquire if any additional loads are available. If loads are available, accept and dispatch to the next available driver. If loads are for next day pickup, take information and enter into dispatch system for planning later that day.

  • Make appointments for loading and unloading with appropriate shippers/receivers.

  • Maintain excellent working relationship with shippers & receivers and customers as the front line representative of the company.

  • Communicate with and coach employees on assignments, providing technical expertise as needed.

  • Act as liaison between drivers and administration, accounting, and other departments as needed.

  • Throughout each shift, as time permits, sort logs & freight bills, scan/index, make copies and prepare such information for billing to remain timely and accurate.

  • Work with maintenance department to ensure equipment is available for PM service and other work as necessary, including documentation of road calls.

  • Work with safety department to ensure company safety policies are carried out and crisis plans are followed. Report any unsafe acts or conditions.


  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in transportation industry or related field with progressive responsibilities.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.

  • Microsoft Word, Excel & proprietary software - Truck Pro, TMW, or other software programs preferred.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
