Chief Building Official

The Chief Building Official is a division manager within the Public Works Department, and exercises full responsibility for planning, organizing and directing the work activities of building staff and contract resources. The incumbent is responsible for the overall supervision, administrative and technical work on the Building Division. Duties Management responsibility for the overall operation of the Building Division; Develops, Implements and evaluates procedures to meet organizational goals and improve work performance; Coordinates activities with other divisions, City departments, outside agencies, contract service providers and organizations; Supervises and participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of division goals, objectives, policies and procedures; Oversees and participates in the development and monitoring of the annual budget for the Building Division; Provides technical and professional advice, including reports and presentations to Council, Community groups and Regulators; Monitors trends and stays current with best practices and recommend policy and procedural changes as appropriate; Conducts field inspections of complex building construction, plumbing and electrical Installations; Interpret and enforce City building codes; Responds to the most complex and difficult inquiries, assist building staff with problem resolution; Responsible for workforce staff development, discipline, and regulatory compliance; Represents the Department with other City departments, other agencies, civic groups and the public; Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies and associations, City management and staff, and the public. Experience Six years of increasingly responsible experience in building inspection, plans examination or a combination of both, including two years at a supervisory level and an Associates degree in engineering, architecture, public administration or a closely related field. Upon hire, must possess a valid Class C California driver's license. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
